This article describes how to use Skyvia – a cloud data backup and integration service – for exporting data from different cloud applications and databases. Skyvia supports such cloud applications as Salesforce, Dynamics CRM, Zoho CRM, and SugarCRM, and such databases as SQL Server, MySQL, and PostgreSQL.
Skyvia offers universal way to export data from all supported data sources. After you have exported data from one data source, it’s very easy to export data from another. Skyvia developers also add support for more data sources periodically.
In order to export data with Skyvia, first you need to do is to register an account. The registration is easy and intuitive, and it is completely FREE. You just need to visit the Skyvia site – https://skyvia.com/, click the SIGN UP button in the top right corner of the page, then specify your e-mail address and fill up a simple registration form, and after this you can start exporting data.
Connect to Data Source
After registering an account you need to connect to the data source. Click the Connections link on the left side of the page. Click the data source you want to export data from. For example, let’s export Salesforce data.
In the displayed dialog box, enter a connection name. Then click the Log in with Salesforce button and login to Salesforce website. Allow Skyvia to access Salesforce data, and then save the result connection.
After this, go to the Integration page (Integration link on the left side of the page). Here, click the Create Now button under Data Export, and then click Export. An Export Package editor page opens.
Click Select near the Source header, and then click Salesforce. Select the Salesforce connection you have previously created in the Source Connection list, then click the Add Task button. The Task Editor dialog box opens.
Select a Salesforce object to export. For example, let’s export SalesforceContacts. Skyvia can export data from any Salesforce object. After this you need to select fields to export. Select the check box near the object name to export all fields. You can also configure data filtering if necessary.
Click Save in the Task Editor, and then click Save on the package editor page. Thenclick Run. After the package finished execution, the Run History on the left displays the number of exported records. Click this number to download the result CSV file.
Export to File Storage Services
The CSV files can be exported not just locally downloaded. You can also export data to such cloud file storages as Box, Dropbox, and Google Drive. Additionally CSV files can be placed to FTP or SFTP servers. For this, you need to create a connection to the corresponding file storage and use it as a target connection when creating an export package.
You can even automate your export operation and export data to CSV files on cloud storages on a schedule. For this you need to click the Set Schedule button on the Export Package editor page and configure the schedule for package execution.
More than Just Export
Skyvia is not limited to data export. It can import CSV files to cloud apps and relational databases, load data between the supported data sources, create a copy of cloud application data in a database, and synchronize cloud and database data. Additionally, you can backup your cloud data with Skyvia. While some use CSV files to backup data from Salesforce and other cloud applications, Skyvia recommends its own backup feature in order to backup Salesforce.
Skyvia offers manual and automatic daily backups for cloud applications, allows viewing and exporting of backed up data. You can even compare your backups for different points in time and see the data differences.
